ClearVid CMOS Sensor

This innovative CMOS sensor uses a ‘tilted’ pixel layout, which helps boost resolution and sensitivity, even in low light ot indoors. Additionally, Sony Exmor technology reduces picture noise when signals are converted into digital format.

BIONZ Image Processor

The advanced Sony BIONZ Image Processor uses hardware-based Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuitry that improves camera response time, screens out noise before RAW data conversion, handles Dynamic Range Optimization processing, and prolongs battery life.

Super SteadyShot Image Stabilisation System

Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilisation System from Sony helps to reduce blur caused by camera shake, keeping images sharp and clear. This is an optical image stabilisation system which has advantages over traditional digital stabilisation systems.

x.v. Colour Technology

x.v.Color technology can capture and display nearly twice as many viewable colours than with the traditional RGB standard. This provides a more natural, lifelike image reproduction.

Face Detection for Video and Stills

Using the BIONZ image processing engine, Face Detection technology recognises up to 8 faces within the frame and controls focus, exposure, and colour to optimise smiling faces brightly and clearly. It also helps make skin tones look natural.

Dynamic Range Optimizer

D-Range Optimization works to preserve image data in bright light conditions, for example by suppressing "whiteout" in skies. When filming in backlit settings, D-Range Optimization shows more detail in shadows, preventing "blackout."

Hard Disk Drive or Memory Stick Media

Hybrid recording technology means you can record to the HDR-SR12E's internal hard disk drive, or to removable Memory Stick Duo media, or Memory Stick PRO Duo media. You can easily copy video or still images from the hard disk drive to Memory Stick media without using a PC. Images on Memory Stick media can be played directly on a PS3 or PC.

3.2" (16:9) Touch Panel LCD Display

The 3.2" Wide (16:9) XtraFine LCD screen displays sharp, bright, photo-quality images to help you compose and share video easily, even outdoors. With almost 1 megapixel (921K pixels) resolution and a wide viewing angle composing images has never been clearer.

Face Index

Face Index makes it easy to find a particular scene in your recording. Using Face Detection technology, Face Index indexes the faces detected in each scene so you can search for the scene you want by selecting from among the detected faces displayed in the index.

Film Roll Index

Film Roll Index also helps you find scenes in video footage. The HDR-SR12E camcorder previews the beginning of scenes and can also create scene indexes set at specified display intervals.

HDMI Connection with BRAVIA Sync

HDMI connectivity provides a simple way to transmit HD video and 5.1 channel audio from the camcorder to compatible HDTV’s using a single cable. With BRAVIA Sync technology, the HDMI connection also enables you to control both the camcorder and HDTV using a single BRAVIA TV remote.
